EDL BACKS LAGOS CRICKET TOURNEY
Lagos Island, Lagos – April, 8 2004

Express Discount Limited (EDL) has committed a sponsorship package of N0.8Million for the hosting of the 3rd Edition of the Lagos State Cricket Association organized Lagos Knock Out Cricket Tournament 2004, scheduled to commence from Saturday, April 10 to Sunday, April 25, 2004 at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval and the University of Lagos Cricket Pitch respectively.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Express Discount Limited, Mr. Kwesi Sagoe, an ex- international, disclosed that the prestigious tournament is indeed organised for cricketers by cricketers who have played and are exposed to the game at its highest level. Express Discount Limited (EDL) opted to sponsor the tournament, in propagation of the basic tenets of the noble game of cricket. The sport preaches discipline, integrity, trust, fairness and patience in line with EDL corporate values.

The Chairman of the Lagos State Cricket Association (LSCA), Mr. George Wiltshire has expressed his association's appreciation to Express Discount Limited for increasing the sponsorship package over last year's. He assured EDL that the 3rd Edition would surpass previous editions in terms of standard of play and organization. He also disclosed that debutant Indo-Nigeria Cricket Club will be competing for the coveted trophy with Lagos Indians CC, Howzat Pioneers CC, Howzat Dolphins CC, Cosmopolitan CC, Rocks CC, Foundation CC, Government College Ibadan Old Boys CC, FGC Warri Old Boys CC and Kings College Old Boys CC.

The maiden edition of the tourney, held in May 2002, was won by Cosmopolitan CC who defeated arch rival, Foundation Cricket Club by 70 runs. Foundation Cricket Club defeated Government College Old Boys CC by 7 wickets to win the second edition held in April/May 2003.

As the participating teams prepare to "bat it out", the issue being discussed by followers of the tourney is, who lifts the 3rd edition. This is too difficult to predict as Cosmopolitan CC, GCI, FCC, Pioneers CC and Lagos Indians CC are all favourably in contention for the coveted trophy.
