2006 Press Release
EDL'S
MD/CEO ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE NIGERIA CRICKET FEDERATION
Lagos Island, Lagos –
May 8, 2006
EDL's MD/CEO, Mr. Kwesi Sagoe was on 11th of May 2006 elected
the President of the Nigerian Cricket Association. Mr. Sagoe will bring to the
job his wealth of experience as a national player, selector and administrator
to bear as he tries to chart a new course for the federation. His playing career
spans from his college days at King College Lagos through University of Lagos,
the national team and various clubs, winning laurels both locally and internationally,
as can be seen in his profile.
Mr Sagoe coming from a cricket playing family with father and
brother being national team players, is taking over when the much need boost
is required in Nigeria cricket. Nigeria has always been a dominant force in
the West African cricket circuit but that is currently been challenged by the
likes of Ghana and Sierra Leone. The major challenge for the new president would
be the restore Nigeria’s dominance in West Africa and take on the likes
of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Kenya in Africa and making Nigeria a
test playing nation.
Mr Sagoe believes that the private sector participation has always
being the way to go as highlighted by his achievements in getting corporate
sponsorship for various tournaments in cricket while member and current vice
chairman of the Lagos State Cricket Association.
The game of cricket which is as old as most sports in Nigeria would require
greater exposure to gain more public acceptance and the new president is posed
to achieve that for the federation.
Below is the letter of notification of the result of the election.
