AGAIn, Express Discount Limited’s site rated best among discount houses in Nigeria
Lagos Island, Lagos – August 20, 2004

The ability of Express Discount Limited (EDL) to effectively apply information technology to business has once again been acknowledged in the latest Phillips Consulting Web-Jurist rankings in which the company’s website was ranked second overall (most effective) in the non-bank category, the highest among discount houses in Nigeria. 

At the company’s management retreat of 1996 which was tagged ‘Change 96’, the strategic use of internet technology to further advance the IT-driven competitive edge of the company was decided.  

EDL launched its website in September 1998, the first discount house in Nigeria to do so. The official launching of the site was performed by Dr. (Mrs.) Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke (O.O.N.), the Director-General of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, at a well-attended ceremony held at the MUSON Centre. 

The company’s website has consistently been rated high among financial institutions in the country. EDL was rated the best in the inaugural edition of the ratings for non-banks in 2001. Since then, the company had consistently improved its website and has become well known for its Express On-Line service (http://www.expresson-line.com) , a website dedicated to providing information on Nigeria’s financial markets. 

In May 2002, Philips Consulting had this to say about the website of Express Discount Limited: “The site is clearly a content-driven information site and has become well known for this attribute in the local industry, this is indeed commendable.”
